1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

2. GETTING STARTED
*********************************************************************

INSTALLATION
Choose Install on the menu you see after inserting your CD into the CD-ROM drive.
If you do not see a menu launch after inserting the CD, open My Computer on your 
desktop and then open the CD you are trying to install.  Double click on the Setup.exe
to get started.  Simply choose the default selections on every screen for quick and
easy installing.  If you do not have enough disk space to install this program, you will
have to cancel installation and free more space on your hard drive.

This game requires Direct X to run and will offer you Direct X 8.1 to install in case you 
do not have it.  This game can only be successfully installed on computers with sound
cards that are compatible with Direct X drivers.

It is recommended to close all running programs before installing this game and when
playing it.

Remember, if you install both programs together, your Dogz and Catz can play together!

PLAYING THE GAME
There are three ways to open your game:

1) Double-click on the Petz 5 shortcut on your desktop
2) Select Petz 5 in the Petz 5 folder in the Ubi Soft folder of the Programs section 
of your Start Menu (Start/Programs/Ubi Soft/Petz 5/Petz5.exe)
3) Double-click on the Petz5.exe in the folder where the game was installed on your 
hard drive.

Your game will open to the Adoption Center where you can begin adopting a Petz of 
your choice!  Depending on which games you have installed, you can choose from 15 
Catz breedz and/or 15 Dogz breedz.  To see which Petz is right for you, click on the 
Pick a Pet button to the left of the Adoption Center Doors.  Different breedz have 
different personalities, but every Petz is unique!  When you have found the Petz you 
would like to adopt, press "Adopt Now."  Fill out your Adoption Certificate and you're 
ready to go! Your Petz will start out in the Family Room but you can take them to any 
of the fun-filled environments by simply clicking on "Go To" on your Supply Case and 
selecting the environment.     

3. CONTROLS
*********************************************************************

Left-click with your mouse and hold the button down to pet Petz and pickup Toyz.  
Right-click and hold the button down over a Petz to pick them up and carry them.  
Double left-click to call your Petz over to you.

4. NEW FEATURES

NEW LITTERZ  Dogz and Catz can now have multiple Puppyz and Kittenz born in a 
litter  before it used to be just one, now its anywhere from 1  4 unique bundles 
of joy!

NEW CATZ BREEDZ  Japanese Bobtail, Scottish Fold, Honey Bear, Egyptian Mau, 
and Desert Lynx.

NEW DOGZ BREEDZ  Golden Retriever, Jack Russell Terrier, Pug, Papillion, and German 
Shepherd.

NEW PLAYSCENES (in both Dogz 5 and Catz 5)  Haunted Mansion, Fantasy Castle, Asian 
Temple, Pet Salon, and Nursery to keep the new litterz in.  

MINI GAMES  Now you can play games like Tic-Tac-Toe and Rock-Paper-Scissors with 
your Petz!  There are 5 mini games in all.

WEATHER EFFECTS  Sun, Rain, Snow and Wind 

DAY & NIGHT CYCLES  Now when its nighttime outside, it can be nighttime for your 
Petz too!  But if you prefer to play in the happy sunshine with your Catz and Dogz, 
you can.

NEW TOYZ & CLOTHING  New toyz and clothes to go along with the new scenes!  

NEW GRAPHICS  Updated to 24-bit!  Its simply marvelous!!

5. HOW TO ORDER

When you install both Catz 5 and Dogz 5 together, both Catz and Dogz can play together!  
To purchase the other game, you can check your local software retailers or go to 
www.ubi.com, www.ubi.co.uk, or your local Ubi Soft website to order online.  Sorry, 
but only credit cards are accepted at the online store.

6. TROUBLE SHOOTING
*********************************************************************
Please read the manual or search the in-game Help.  Most of the time, the answers to 
your questions are found there.  If you dont find your answer, check the FAQ sections 
on www.petz.com and at http://support.ubi.com.  

1) The pictures of the Playscenes look bigger than mine do in the game.
	A) Your monitor resolution needs to be set to at least 1024x768.

2) The game takes a very long time to load or to transition between Playscenes.  
   Is there anything I can do?
	A) Yes, more RAM on your computer will definitely help.  You can also close 
	any other open programs.  Restarting your computer and only opening the game 
	will help too.  Make sure you havent run out of disk space on your hard drive.

Ubi Soft Limited Warranty
Ubi Soft warrants to the original purchaser of its products that the products would be 
free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ninety (90) days from the 
date of purchase. Ubi Soft products are sold "as is", without any expressed or implied 
warranties of any kind, and Ubi Soft is not liable for any losses or damages of any kind 
resulting from use of its products. Ubi Soft agrees for a period of ninety (90) days to 
either replace defective product free of charge provided you return the defective item 
with dated proof of purchase to the store from which the product was originally purchased 
or repair or replace the defective product at its option free of charge, when accompanied 
with a proof of purchase and sent to our offices postage prepaid. This warranty is not 
applicable to normal wear and tear, and shall be void if the defect in the product is 
found to be as a result of abuse, unreasonable use, mistreatment or neglect of the product.

Limitations
This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties and no other representations or claims of 
any nature shall be binding on, or obligate Ubi Soft. Any implied warranties applicable 
to Ubi Soft products, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular 
purpose, are limited to the ninety (90) day period described above. In no event will 
Ubi Soft be liable for any special, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from 
possession, use, or malfunction of Ubi Soft products. Some states do not allow limitations 
as to how long an implied warranty lasts and/or exclusions or limitations of incidental or
 consequential damages. So the above limitations and/or exclusions of liability may not 
apply to you. This warranty gives you specific rights, and you may also have other rights 
that vary from state to state.

Ubi Soft reserves the right to make improvements in its products at any time and without

Refunds
Ubi Soft cannot provide refunds or otherwise process returns for credit of any kind other 
than an identical product replacement. Any product refund request must occur at the place 
of purchase, as the individual retail outlets set their own refund policy. This policy 
covers identical product replacements only. 

Product / Documentation Replacements
Please contact Ubi Soft Technical Support before sending your product to us. In many cases,
a replacement is not the best solution. Our support representatives will help you determine
if a replacement is necessary or available.

Within the 90-day warranty period:
Please return the product (media only) along with a copy of the original sales receipt, 
showing the date of purchase, a brief description of the difficulty you are experiencing 
including your name, address and phone number to the address below. If the product was 
damaged through misuse or accident, or if you do not have a dated sales receipt, then this
90-day warranty is rendered void and you will need to follow the instructions for returns 
after the 90-day warranty period.

After the 90-day warranty period:
Please return the product (media only) along with a check or money order for the amount 
corresponding to your product (see replacement fees below) made payable to Ubi Soft, a 
brief description of the difficulty you are experiencing including your name, address and

8b. WARRANTY - United Kingdom

Ubi Soft guarantees to the original buyer of the product that the compact disc (CD) supplied 
with this product shall not show any fault during a normal-use period of ninety (90) days 
from the invoiced date of purchase.

Please return any defective product to; Ubi Soft Entertainment Ltd., Chantrey Court, 
Minorca Road, Weybridge, Surrey, KT13 8DU together with this manual and your registration 
card if you have not already sent it to us.  Please state your full name and address (including 
postcode), as well as the date and location of purchase.  You may also exchange the product 
at the place of purchase.

If a disc is returned without proof of purchase or after the warranty period has expired, 
Ubi Soft will choose either to repair or to replace it at customer expense.  This warranty is 
invalid if the disc has been damaged through negligence, accident or misuse, or if it has been 
modified after acquisition.

This software program, manual and packaging are protected by copyright and all rights are 
reserved by Ubi Soft.  Documentation should not be copied, reproduced, translated or 
transferred, in whole or in part and in whatever form, without prior written agreement of Ubi Soft.

This software program, this CD and its documentation are sold as they stand.  Outside the 
guarantee period of 90 days concerning any manufacturing defect of the CD, Ubi Soft will not 
extend any other guarantee concerning this program, this CD nor its documentation, be it written 
or verbal, direct or implied, including but without limitation of the above, guarantee and conditions 
of marketing and use for specific purposes even though the company may have been informed of 
such use.  Similarly, you shall be entirely responsible for any risks relative to utilisation, results
